The Foundation: Two Overlapping Circles
The secret to all great chibi art is proportion! We start by defining the head, which should be disproportionately large. Lightly sketch one large circle for the head and a slightly smaller, slightly overlapping circle directly below it for the body. Use the lightest pressure possible; these are just our blueprints!
Adding Ears, Limbs, and Guidelines
Now let’s attach the accessories! Add two small circles centered on the top of the head for the ears. Then, place four tiny ovals or circles at the base of the body for the paws and feet. Finally, draw faint crosshair guidelines on the large head circle—one vertical line and one horizontal line—to help us perfectly center the facial features in the next step.
Defining the Shape and Patches
It’s time to find the smooth final shape! Gently erase any lines where the circles overlap internally. The most crucial part is drawing the iconic black patches. Sketch two large, almost teardrop-shaped patches around where the eyes will go, following the curve of the large head circle. Add a small oval nose just below the horizontal guideline and a tiny smile beneath it. Smooth out the connection between the head and body to make it look seamless and squishy.
Inking the Coloring Page
This is a pivotal moment! Take your fine-tip marker and carefully trace all your beautiful, refined pencil lines. Focus on creating crisp, continuous lines for the outline, ears, patches, and facial features. Once the ink is completely dry (wait 30 seconds!), use your plastic eraser to completely wipe away every trace of graphite. You now have a perfect, clean coloring page ready for action!
The Finale: Coloring Your Cuddly Companion
Grab those colors! Pandas are simple, but we can make them dynamic. Use a deep black crayon or marker for the ears, eye patches, and limbs, leaving the body and face white. For extra charm, use a slightly lighter grey or a touch of blue to add subtle shading beneath the head and on the sides of the body—this makes our little friend look perfectly round and ready for a hug!
